Violin Lessons for Every Stage - Beginner Through Advanced

Violin is the instrument I’ve been playing the longest, and the one I take students furthest on. Regardless of your skill level, I would love to teach you.

I teach beginner through advanced violin. Beginners build a strong setup from day one, bow grip, posture, intonation, and ear training, because the habits formed in the first year shape everything that comes after.

Intermediate and advanced students work on repertoire, technique, sight-reading, and the harder skills that take violin from “playing notes” to “making music.”

What Violin Students Learn

Violin is one of the most rewarding instruments to learn. While it can be challenging at first, the right guidance and consistent practice make all the difference. Every violin student at Studio Kwan Music develops the following six skills below.

Bow technique and right-hand control - Bow hold, contact point, weight, speed, and bow distribution. The right hand is what makes the violin sing, most of a violinist's tone comes from how they handle the bow.

Left-hand technique and intonation - Hand frame, finger placement, shifting, and vibrato (at the right stage). Because the violin has no frets, intonation is built through ear training and muscle memory, both of which take consistent, attentive practice.

Sight-reading and rhythm - Read music fluently in treble clef, count complex rhythms, and play in time with a metronome or accompaniment. Critical for school orchestra, chamber music, and solo playing.

Ear training - Develop pitch recognition, interval awareness, and the ability to hear when something is in tune (or isn't). Violin demands stronger ears than almost any other instrument and lessons build them deliberately.

Music theory fundamentals - Scales, key signatures, chord progressions, and form. Theory makes new pieces faster to learn and gives advanced students the foundation for chamber music and improvisation.

Practice strategy - Most progress happens between lessons. I teach students how to break down hard passages, when to slow down, and how to use practice time efficiently, so the hours at home actually pay off.
