Private Lesson Policies

About Your Teacher

Hi, I’m Elizabeth! I have studied music for over 20 years and taught for 9. I’m originally from Salt Lake City, but moved away for college to attend Arizona State University and received my Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy in 2019. In 2021, I became a Board-Certified Music Therapist and worked with children with special needs for two years before realizing my passion is in teaching. 

I aim to make lessons both fun and educational. My students are encouraged to let me know if there’s a song they’ve been loving lately so we can incorporate it into our lessons. I also put a lot of focus on learning music theory. Students will play games or do fun worksheets to help grasp reading music and rhythm. 

Communication

• The best way to reach me is via text message. I cannot answer my phone if I am currently teaching a lesson and will get back to you as soon as I can. 

• I provide monthly updates via email. Students/parents are expected to read all correspondence and respond in a timely manner when needed. Monthly emails will include a calendar of my schedule for the next two months, important updates, and other resources.

Tuition

• Your tuition is a monthly flat rate, regardless of how many lessons you have in a month, that covers a total of 42 lessons per calendar year. If you are starting midway through the year, the number of lessons will be calculated and adjusted for your first month of tuition and the flat rate will be charged for the remaining months. Your tuition holds your time slot. The flat rates for 2026 are:

  • 30 minutes: $130

  • 45 minutes: $190

  • 60 minutes: $250

• Monthly tuition is due on the 1st of each month. A late fee of $25 will be added if not paid by the 5th. If payment is not received by the 7th of the month, lessons will be cancelled until payment is made and you may lose your time slot. No make-ups will be provided for those lessons. 

• Payment methods: 

  • Payments will be made via My Music Staff. Once you sign up for lessons, you will receive an email with your login information and you can pay your invoices there. Autopay is an option.

  • I also accept exact cash as I usually don’t carry change with me. Your payment will be entered into My Music Staff.

• Tuition increases: I do my best to provide the best education for my students. Students and parents must understand that the cost of tuition will occasionally increase. 

• Tuition is based on enrollment, not attendance. Your tuition also covers the cost of:

  • Lesson planning and supplies

  • Studio-wide review sessions and monthly make-up day

  • Paid memberships I am a part of for resources, music, etc.

  • Studio equipment and Elizabeth’s instrument maintenance

  • Cleaning and sanitizing items

  • Recital costs

  • My continuing education

  • Access to resources on the website that I update regularly

Tuition does not cover the cost of music books. You may either purchase the books yourself or I can purchase them and add the cost to the next month invoice.  

Attendance Policy

• Lessons are weekly at the scheduled day and time. Lesson times are standing appointments; a student’s lesson time is reserved for only them each week, and it is their responsibility to attend. You should commit to a time that you are confident in. 

• Cancellations: A minimum of 24-hours notice is required for missed lessons. Lessons with less than 24-hours notice and no-shows are forfeit and will not be made up. Please notify me of cancellations via text message.

• Make-up lessons are available for cancellations with over 24-hours notice with the following options: 

  • If I have any open slots or other cancellations, I can usually schedule a make-up within the same week as the cancellation. This is only an option if I have availability.

  • On one Saturday morning per month, I will offer make-up lessons from my home or online, which will be noted in the monthly newsletter. Lesson slots are first come, first serve after I post the make-up slots. 

  • You can send me a video of you practicing your lesson material within 48 hours of your missed lesson. I will send an assessment and what to work on for your next lesson.

  • I do not hold regular lessons during Thanksgiving week or the last two weeks of the year. If I am in town, I can do make-up lessons during that time.

• Sick Policy

  • Please do not go to your lesson if you are sick! 

  • If you are mildly sick or can’t physically make it to your lesson, please let me know and we can do an online lesson at your regularly scheduled time. 

  • If you are not feeling well enough for a lesson, you can send me a video of you practicing your lesson material within 48 hours of your missed lesson. I will send an assessment and what to work on for your next lesson.

• Weather: If the weather causes a safety concern on the roads for either party, lessons will take place at the regularly scheduled lesson time via Google Meet, Zoom, or Facetime. If I am traveling to your home, please make sure the driveway/street is clear for me to park.

My Music Staff

My Music Staff is the platform I use to handle payments and scheduling. You will receive an email with your login and first invoice when you sign up for weekly lessons. You can access My Music Staff anytime by going to my website and clicking on the “login” button at the top. You will be able to see your lesson schedule, change your contact information, make payments, set up autopay, read your lesson notes, and access resources. 

If you are a parent, your child can make a login and access their lesson notes and fill out a practice log. They will not have access to billing and invoicing information. If you would like them to have an online account, please reach out to me.

Recital

A small recital will take place once or twice a year. Recitals are not required, but highly encouraged. More details about each recital will be provided as they get closer. You’re welcome to take photos and videos. I can also set up a livestream upon request.

Review Sessions

Occasionally I will hold an online review session that covers a topic of the studio’s choosing, such as rhythm, reading music, etc. I am always open to requests for topics to cover. Review sessions are optional to attend. The topic and date will be announced in the monthly emails and a sign-up will be available on My Music Staff. 

Studio Materials

I will regularly create and upload materials and resources for the studio to use on My Music Staff, such as theory worksheets, recordings, links to supplemental educational resources, etc. They will be used during lessons or for your use at home to further the student’s education. These are for personal use only and may not be reproduced, distributed, or sold in any form without explicit written permission from me. 

Trial Lessons

30 minute trial lessons are available if you would like one lesson before you commit to weekly lessons. If you sign up for lessons after your trial lesson, the trial lesson fee will go towards your first month’s tuition. My trial lesson rate is $25.

Referrals

Thank you so much for referring others to my studio! Referring one student will give you $40 off your next month’s tuition when the referee signs up for weekly lessons.

Termination

• Students must provide one month's notice (30 days) to terminate lessons. Less than one month’s notice will result in getting charged the following month. 

• Temporary pauses or hiatuses are not allowed. This includes long vacations. If you know you will be gone for an extended period let me know and we can plan accordingly to get your lessons in. You will still need to pay your monthly tuition in order to keep your time slot. Otherwise, it is considered a termination and I still require one month’s notice. You will be taken off my schedule and placed on a waitlist. Once termination is initiated, I will calculate how many lessons you have taken and invoice/refund accordingly.

Parking

Parking is available along the street. Please do not block my neighbor’s driveways.

Materials

Bring the follow to EVERY lesson:

• Your instrument (violin/guitar students)

• Music

• Worksheets (if assigned)

• Notebook

Punctuality 

• To make the most of our time, please arrive on time for class. My doors will be open 10 minutes in advance if you want to arrive early and get set up. Students are asked to take off their shoes at the front door and wash their hands before starting the lesson. 

• If you are going to be late, please let me know via text message and your ETA. I allow 15 minutes before your lesson is considered a no-show and will not be subject to make-up. 

• Parents are expected to pick up students on time. My schedule has back to back lessons and I may need to leave for a travel lesson. Late pick-ups that impede on other lessons are subject to a fee. 

Parent Attendance

Parents of students ages 5-6 are required to attend lessons. Parents of students ages 7+ are welcome to stay during the lesson, but not required. Parents are expected to help their child incorporate practicing into their routine. 

Practice Expectations

To get the most out of our lessons, students should make practicing a part of their daily routine. Practicing 5 minutes every day is better than one 30 minute practice session. You know what schedule is best for you/your student. Start small and build up from there.

Online Lessons

Sometimes lessons take place online (see attendance policy). I use Facetime, Google Meet, and Zoom for online lessons. The platform will be determined ahead of the lesson. Please try to have your lesson in a distraction-free area. I will need to be able to see your fingers clearly, so angle your camera accordingly. If the internet connection is unstable, you will need to send me a video recording of you practicing your lesson material and I will send an assessment and what to work on for your next lesson.

Before your lesson, test your microphone and camera, making sure both of your hands are visible. Have your music and a notebook nearby so you can take notes. Guitar and violin students are expected to tune their instruments prior to the start of the lesson. 

Travel Lessons

For an additional monthly travel fee, I travel to homes for lessons. Due to the unpredictable nature of travel, please allow a 5-minute variance between a lesson’s scheduled time and the time that I may arrive. You will get your full lesson time. I will notify you if I am more than 5 minutes late. If you are not home, I will wait 15 minutes beyond the scheduled time of a lesson. After that, I will leave and your lesson will not be made up. 

My Dog

I have a very friendly corgi who will be excited to greet you. If you are allergic or uncomfortable with dogs, please let me know in advance.
